My friend had a FABULOUS idea Wednesday at play group. She suggested we do a date night babysitting co-op. Friday nights, we all take our kids to one person's house and go have a date. Each week, we switch babysitters. There are 5 families so far, so that's a pile of kids (any more and we'll have to split into two groups.) But we only have to babysit less than once a month and we get a date every other weekend. We started last night. We finally got to use a gift card to an amazing restaurant that someone had given us for Christmas. So for about $5 we got a really great date! And the kids get to stay up late, play with friends, watch movies, eat popcorn... it's a win for everyone. We're all really excited about it! It's awesome! ... just in case any of you would like to start something similar among friends you trust.

It really did work out well, and I think my husband is convinved it is a good idea. Hopefully he will still think that after our night watching the kids :).
PS. Sometime, when it is neither of our turns to babysit, we should go on a double date.
Some families do that here too. It sounds like a great idea.
It sounded like a great idea until you drove up to see all the fire trucks......The kids were great!
